The Heart of Petries Dining
Taverna Thalassa has been feeding locals and visitors since 1987. Run by the Papadopoulos family, it sits right on the waterfront with tables practically touching the waves.
This isn't a tourist trap — it's where the fishermen eat. The fish comes straight from the morning catch, and you can often see the owner selecting his ingredients at the harbor next door.
What to Order
- Grilled octopus (€12) — tender, charred, drizzled with olive oil and lemon. The signature dish.
- Fried calamari (€9) — light, crispy, nothing like the frozen kind
- Fish of the day (priced by weight) — ask what's fresh, they'll show you the options
- Greek salad (€7) — enormous, with local tomatoes that taste like actual tomatoes
- Homemade tzatziki (€4) — thick, garlicky, the best in the village
